Zealous Love!

I was touched by a word in Isaiah 9:7. The last part of the verse gives an adjective to the love of God - zealous!. "The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this."

God's love is not like the love in this world. His love has zeal. By the way the interesting thing here is the context in which His love is found to be full of zeal. The context is a pretty sad one. The people are not obeying God and his commandments. God is about to hand them over to foreigners. In the midst of such sad a situation, God's love is found to be that of zeal!! That's pretty amazing, because on the one hand is His judgement and on the other is his zealous love!

Behind every judgement of God there is His love. Ultimately, God will deliver His people, as we see is the theme in chapter 9 of Isaiah.

"For to us a child is born,
    to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
    and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9"6)

It gives me much peace and makes me feel special that my God loves me with zeal. Wow! God's love does not make him feel tired and weary. God's love is unconditional. He is working out something great in me. He will keep me safe till the end. He will shape me and mold me into the man He wants of me.

It also makes me ponder - is my love for the people around and under me characterized by zeal, love and forgiveness? God loves Israel with zeal, even when Israel does not seem to respond to God's plan and love. In the same, I am called to love people with zeal (which is practically forgiveness, mercy and service), when my people do not seem to (in a sense) deserve it.

Called by zealous love; called for zealous love!
